Members of the Olney Rotary Club (olneyrotary.org) are raising money to install AED’s (Automated Electronic Defibrillators) in the shopping centers serving the Olney community. These life-saving devices have a high percentage of saves attributed to them when used early in a cardiac arrest. The Club will be holding a fundraiser, ROADSIDE RIBS AND BBQ, following the Olney Farmer’s Market on Sunday July 16 from 1pm to 6pm. An AED will be on display with a trainer to show residents how they work. Several Barbeque vendors will be selling food for either take-out or on-site eating. Profits from the sales of food tickets will be put into the Olney Rotary Charitable Trust for the order, installation and maintenance of the AED’s. Each shopping center will receive AED’s spaced so that one is nearby in case of a cardiac arrest. It is estimated that each AED, with weatherproof outdoor boxes, will cost around $2,000. The number of AED’s needed will be about 12-15.
