(Sandy Spring, MD) Sandy Spring Museum is proud to announce Phillip
Alexander Downie, Director of Special Events and Facility Rentals, has
been named Manager of the Year by Visit Montgomery. Mr. Downie
was awarded the title at the organizations inaugural Heroes of
Hospitality Awards + Luncheon on Wednesday, May 8th.

Mr. Downie was nominated by industry peers with the following
statement, “Phillip is truly the heart and soul of this venue - the clients
come to depend on his input, expertise and support - as well as his ideas and thorough set up
preparation. He handles staff of varied sizes depending on the event; organizing community
programming for unknown numbers of attendees as well as indoor-outdoor tented weddings and
    charity galas for 300+.

When Phillip walks into a room heads turn - and not because of his 6'4" stature - his grace and
confidence exude, and it's immediately understood why his staff, clients and colleagues rely on him
and his expertise. He has in depth knowledge of the industry and events from years of building up his
    resume with sweat and effort.

The team at Sandy Spring Museum is always thrilled to work with him, and undoubtedly believe he is
among the cadre of great local managers deserving of this title.”

Phillip Downie, a Sandy Spring native, joined the Museum team in May 2015. He is responsible for
the logistics and management of all special events, programs, and facility rentals. “We’re so lucky to
have someone like Phillip on staff,” says Executive Director Allison Weiss. “He’s not just great at his
job. He also sets an example for other staff to follow. He inspires everyone to do their best.”
