The Legislative District Team of Senator Craig Zucker, Delegate Anne Kaiser, Delegate Eric Luedtke, and Delegate Pam Queen announce the inaugural “Shop and Drop” Marketplace to enhance Montgomery County’s economy by aiding small businesses. The objective of this initiative is to “drop” dollars into struggling MBE-certified, Montgomery County, Maryland businesses by highlighting the goods and services that these businesses provide, attracting new customers to these businesses, and connecting these businesses with vital resources. This one-day marketplace will be held quarterly as a business promotion and education event to bring together in one location - local small businesses, potential customers, and information about useful state and county resources to increase revenues for these businesses. Each quarter will focus on a different MBE group (African-American, Hispanic, Asian, and Women) with veteran business owners included with each event. Delegate Queen states, “The best way to jump-start local economies is to boost revenues for small businesses”. Nationally, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration, small businesses create over 66% of new jobs. These small businesses account for 44% of total U.S. economic activity. These businesses suffered greatly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Right now, these small businesses need direct, concentrated support” emphasizes Delegate Queen. The inaugural “Shop and Drop” Marketplace will feature MBE-certified, Black-owned, Montgomery County businesses. The location is the East County Community Recreation Center, 3310 Gateshead Manor Way, Silver Spring, Maryland. The date is Sunday, September 26, 2021, from 10 am to 6 pm.
