Deborah Smith Buchanan, Manager of the Sandy Spring Slave Museum, recently collaborated with Kris Morse (photography/arts teacher) and Mark Ehlers (history teacher) at Sandy Spring Friends School, on an Upper School digital photography project. SSFS students explored the Underground Railroad Experience Trail and photographed natural and manmade landmarks along the trail, with an eye towards what landmarks and topographical markings may have looked like from the perspective of a person seeking passage to the northern free states via the dangerous Underground Railroad, and from a new understanding of the Underground Railroad's relevance today. Using image editing software, students applied creative effects and prepared them for a documentary photography exhibition: "Seeing with Different Eyes."
