Robyn Quinter Named ATHENA Recipient

Robyn Quinter of Quinter Design was selected as the recipient of the 3rd Annual Olney-Sandy Spring ATHENA Award. The award was presented during a luncheon at Brooke Grove Retirement Village on Friday, April 25. Robyn Quinter has put her creative mark on the greater Olney area through her creation of brochures, directories, posters, invitations, t-shirts, ads, logos, programs and more for the last fifteen years. Some of the organizations that have benefited from Robyn’s creativity are the Olney Chamber of Commerce, the Sandy Spring Museum, the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, the Olney Theatre Center, Brooke Grove Retirement Village, Salute to Military Golf, Montgomery Alliance, and Olney Help, just to name a few. Robyn is most proud of her advocacy on behalf of the MD Coalition of Families for Children’s Mental Health. Jane Walker, Director of the Coalition, said that “Robyn’s advocacy and concern for the children is unwavering.” Robyn’s involvement and selflessness also spreads to education and mentoring. She is always ready and available to share her knowledge of graphic design and marketing through workshops and seminars. She mentors high school and college students who are considering the graphic design field. Also nominated for this year’s award were Diane Grimes, Anne Willson, Elizabeth Garrettson, and Esther Newman. All the candidates truly represented the spirit of the ATHENA Award, a dedication of self and a generosity of spirit. The Olney Chamber of Commerce would like to congratulate Robyn and all the nominees.

OTCAC Meeting

The Olney Town Center Advisory Committee continues to seek community input on its illustration of the 2005 Master Plan update for the 90-acre mixed-use Olney Town Center area. The next presentation of their plan will take place on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the RE/MAX Building. The OTCAC is chartered by the Maryland National Park & Planning Commission to create a common community-based vision and guidelines for how the town center could look in the future and how it might function in relation to surrounding neighborhoods. The OTCAC is encouraging businesses to look at its visualization of a mixed-use town center and provide feedback. Visit www.olneytowncenter.org for more information.

Relay For Life Needs

Relay For Life Needs Accounting/Data Entry Help: With the 2008 Relay For Life of Olney event coming up on Saturday, May 31st, the relay committee is looking for volunteers who can help with accounting and data entry (MS excel) tasks. Its a great way to join our communitys efforts to find a cure for cancer. Relay For Life of Olney is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society.

Health Challenge

Olney Golf Park is pleased to announce its exclusive golf sponsorship of the Gazette Newspapers Healthy Challenge. The Healthy Challenge kicks off this week with two teams competing against each other for three months to lose weight and win physical, recreational and cooking match-ups. April Biz Bizz

The Olney Chamber of Commerce’s month Biz Buzz will be held this month at Play N Trade. The Biz Buzz falls on April 24 the day set aside as “Take Your Sons and Daughters to Work Day.” The Chamber invites its members to finish up the day with their children by stopping by Play N Trade for some informal networking and fun. 1776 at the Olney Theatre

The Olney Theatre Center presents “1776” a lighthearted look at John Adams, Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson as they grapple with the Continental Congress and independence from Britain. A Community Opportunity

The local branch of CHADD (Children & Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is looking for volunteers to help with a new program that will take place here in Olney at the Olney Golf Park. The program will teach the basics of golf to children with AD/HD, Autism, Learning Disabilities, and a wide variety of other mental health conditions. Participants will range in age from 6-17. The program is free to the children. While the children are golfing the parents will be educated on disabilities, supporting their children in school, social activities, and more. No golf experience is needed to participate as a volunteer. Volunteers are needed to set up the learning areas for the children and the adults. Event sponsors and trophy sponsors are also needed.
