Community Night-Taste of Olney-October 6

Registration information for the Chamber’s signature event – Community Night – will be in the mail this week. Wednesday evening, Oct. 6 is the date and Longwood Community Center is the place to be for the 31st Annual Business Expo and Taste of Olney. It’s always a popular event! Park Police estimate that 3,000 attendees enjoyed the displays, exhibits, kids’ activities, giveaways and delicious food at last year’s event.

Taking Back the Night

The Greater Olney Community came out in force, "taking back the night," to meet with local police and fire personnel at the Annual National Night Out. The event was once again attended by thousands of area residents at the event’s new location on the Montgomery General Hospital Grounds. Visitors had an opportunity to put a face on the local police and fire departments and ask questions about awareness and safety. Visitors also had an opportunity to enjoy music and great food, enjoy kids activities, and visit with local businesses. Highlights included a rappelling demonstration by the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, a chance to pet the Park Police horses, and meeting the new Montgomery County Police District 4 Commander, John Damskey.

Swing! Swing! Swing!

On Saturday, August 14 the Olney Big Band will high-light some of the finest in big band jazz music. The show will be held at the Olney Theatre Center and begin at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors, and $15 for students. Show Your Support

In response to the recent act of vandalism and hate that occured at B’nai Shalom of Olney, the members of that congregation invite those throughout the greater Olney Community to "STAND WITH US AGAINST INTOLERANCE, HATE, AND DIVISIVENESS, AND FOR APPRECIATION, LOVE, AND UNITY" by attending a special service on Saturday, August 14th. The regular Shabbat service will begin at 9:00 am and the special portion of the service will begin at 10:45. NNO Tuesday

You won’t want to miss Olney’s 17th Annual National Night Out this Tuesday, August 3 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at its new location, the Montgomery General Hospital Grounds. This annual event focuses on crime prevention and police awareness. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Olney Police Satellite Station, the Sandy Spring Volunteer Fire Department, the MD National Capital Park Police and Crime Solvers.

This year’s event will include demonstrations and information from local police, sheriff, and fire departments to include rappelling, drunk driving simulation, Park Police horses, and more. Music from DJ Good Vibrations will entertain the crowd while visiting exhibits highlighting local businesses, free child id provided by the US Secret Service, free kids games and crafts from the Longwood Community Center, the Olney Chamber raffle table and more. Visitors can also enjoy great food from Mamma Lucia, Urban BarBQue, and Rita’s of Olney in the food court.
