Sat, Mar 20: Disability Awareness Issues Around the World
Shaare Tefila Congregation will host a guest speaker on disability awareness issues around the world during Saturday morning religious services beginning at 9 a.m. on March 20, at Olney Theatre, 2001 Olney Sandy Spring Road in Olney, Maryland, in the William Graham, Sr. Actors Hall on the second floor. The speaker is Kim Musheno, Director of Legislative Affairs for the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, who recently joined the University of Delaware's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) faculty and students in a trip around the world, visiting with community leaders, government leaders, families and individuals with disabilities in Ghana, Dubai, Nepal, and Thailand. They learned about each country's: (1) treatment and care of individuals with disabilities, and (2) how it shares information with one another.

The Olney Town Center Advisory Committee meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month, except August. Their primary mission is to develop an illustrative concept for the Olney Town Center's Master Plan and development guidelines for use by future developers in the town center; and to provide comments to the Maryland-National Capital Parks and Planning Commission's Planning Board on proposed development in the Olney town ceneter. The public is welcome to attend the meetings.

Guest Speaker: Dr. M. Irvil Kear, "From the Canon Envirothon to Saving Resources." The Canon Envirothon is a non-profit organization established provide an environmental education program for high school students. Dr. Kear will share experiences and give us a sense of how these ideas may apply to our local area. All are invited to attend.

During this FREE Living Well Community Seminar offered by Brooke Grove Retirement Village, Chaplain Bill Neely will take the podium to discuss "The Language of Healing." Participants will discover why there is often misunderstanding in communication, learn how to communicate with healing rather than harsh words, and explore some new and surprising types of healing communication. Montgomery County Stroke Association's (MCSA) "STROKE CONVER-PUTER" Club (Speech-Language Therapy Group for Storke Survivors with Aphasia) This is a speech-language therapy group providing facilitated conservational discourse plus computer saftware demonstrations and "hands-on" computer practice for stroke survivors with speech or language difficulties such as aphasia. It meets monthly at the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center, 1000 Forest Glen Rd., Silver Spring -Computer Lab, 1:00 - 2:30 pm. $15 contribution to MCSA requested, but not required. Jeremy's Run is a 5k walk/run and a 1 mile fun run in memory of Jeremy Glass and to benefit the Partnership for a Drug Free America and Saving Teens in Crisis Collaborative. The race is timed by the Montgomery Country Road Runners Club and is USATF Sanction and the course is USATF Certified. There will be prizes for the top male and female finishers in each category. Each participants will receive a free t-shirt; refreshments; complimentary massage and acupuncture;Electric Entertainment will provide the musical entertainment; warm up by top notch professional trainers; photography by Universal Photography and a moon bounce for the kids. Online registration is available at http://www.jeremysrun.com. The cost of the 5k walk/run is $25. and the 1 mile fun run is $5.00. The walk/run winds through beautiful Olney Manor Park and a Olney country road.
